For new or existing users, please click http://sms.tweet.sg/authorize.php to authorize TweetSG to update on your behalf. No more password, no more URL in your updates.

After authorization, just write your update messages & SMS to 8379 7373

Please RE-authorize if you change to another Twitter screen name/URL.

The first version of TweetSG required users to enter password as the first word within the SMS update. Like many of you, I don’t like the idea of keying in password with every update via SMS, but I really didn’t want to store everyone’s passwords and Twitter didn’t had any mechanisms to achieve updates without password.

As for the viral URL, it was a means to gain user-base quickly. I also understand that this feature is a turn-off for some users, thus I am removing it. I guess if this service is good enough, users will spread the word, and that would be more effective viral marketing.

I recently learnt about Twitter’s non-password base authorization which basically allows 3rd party applications to update on behalf of users without using their passwords. So I decided it was time to upgrade TweetSG to use this new authorization scheme. For technical users, this approach is known as OAuth.

A note to EXISTING users WHO WERE UPDATING WITH PASSWORD:
PLEASE DO NOT INCLUDE YOUR PASSWORD IN YOUR SMS AFTER AUTHORIZATION IS DONE!

This is a note of caution as humans are creatures of habits!
